On March 8 and 9, 2018, three members of the Peruvian Life Cycle and Industrial Ecology Network of the Engineering Department of the PUCP traveled to Loreto to present the results of the sub-project for the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions. greenhouse of landfills in Peru. This sub-project forms part of the set of activities that are part of the IKI project, financed by the German government, administered by the UNEP and which has the support of the Ministry of the Environment of Perú.
On the afternoon of Thursday, March 8, the results were presented at the premises of the Provincial Cityhall of Loreto-Nauta. The event, organized by the technical secretary of the municipal environmental commission of Loreto-Nauta, Mr. Andrés Miguel Hinostroza, was attended by about 25 people, including municipal technical staff, technical staff of the landfill and citizens interested in the project . The results presented focused on the study executed for the sanitary landfill of the city of Nauta, the first of its characteristics in the Loreto region.
On the morning of Friday, March 9, the same results of the Nauta landfill in the Provincial Cityhall of Maynas were presented to a group of about 20 people that included technical personnel from that cityhall, professors and students from the National University of the Peruvian Amazon and personnel of different ministries of the nation in the city of Iquitos. This event was organized by Jorge Joel Inga, Technical Secretary of the municipal environmental commission of Maynas.
The contents of the presentations focused on explaining the importance of the final disposal treatments in the fight against climate change, the need to have primary information estimated for the landfills of the country and strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in this type of facilities through technological improvements in the operational processes. With this type of dissemination events it is intended that the results of the project transcend beyond the communication between the research group and the MINAM, and be transmitted to regional actors and consumers relevant environmental information linked to the mitigation of climate change in Peru.
The team of the Peruvian Life Cycle and Industrial Ecology Network was composed of the professor of the PUCP, Ian Vázquez Rowe, the researcher of the PUCP, Kurt Ziegler, and María Margallo, guest professor of the University of Cantabria.
