Dr. Ramzy Kahhat, a researcher at PELCAN and director of the Environmental and Sustainable Engineering Program, was invited to participate in the first meeting of the Global Alliance for Integral Ecology, led by the Laudato si’ Center for Higher Education and the Just Transformations for Sustainability (JTS) Initiative at the University of Notre Dame.
The meeting took place on March 9 and 10, 2026, at Borgo Laudato si’ in Castel Gandolfo, the papal residence located outside Rome. It brought together 150 researchers and institutional leaders from around the world to develop and promote a long-term vision for the Global Alliance.
The objective of the meeting was to allow participants to share and critically reflect on research and education in sustainability inspired by the principles of Integral Ecology in Laudato si’; to build alliances and establish common goals for research, education, and action; and to create flexible, forward-thinking working groups to drive transformative change toward sustainability.
The JTS Initiative works to consolidate the Global Alliance as a hub for connecting, empowering, and driving research, curriculum, and action initiatives for a sustainable future, inspired by the principles of Laudato si’. Through this participation, PELCAN continues to contribute to global debates and collaborations that promote research and action on sustainability
