Visit to the final disposal facilities of solid waste of the Provincial Cityhall of Cusco

On Friday, September 8, a team of researchers from the Peruvian Life Cycle Network visited the facilities for the treatment and final disposal of solid waste from the Provincial Cityhall of Cusco, Háquira. The team consisted of Professor Ramzy Kahhat, research assistant Kurt Ziegler, and visiting professor at the University of Cantabria and PhD in Chemical Engineering, María Margallo. The visit was made within the framework of the IKI project, funded by UNEP and by the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Protection, Public Works and Nuclear Safety of Germany, with the purpose of creating life cycle inventories for economies in development, specifically landfills.

The visit was supported by the Provincial Cityhall of Cusco and it was possible to see in detail the processes that are carried out for the proper disposal of waste, from monitoring the collection of waste, to recycling and refilling of these. Likewise, the evolution in the environmental management of the cityhall and the future plans regarding waste management were exposed.
